“A throbbing minimal electronic EP from Lara Jones, mysterious murmured vocals atop pointillist synths. “ - Bandcamp New & Notable

Divided

“Divided is both playful and provocative, turning dance floor sounds into protest songs. Addressing subjects that affect us all – the highly polarised state of our politics as well as our conflicted inner and outer selves – Lara has created a sonic space that embraces this duality and gives voice to her own insecurities and anger at the state we find ourselves in, but also a desire for change, for a world that’s a little less divided.” Mike Flynn, Jazzwise

The Divided EP sees saxophonist, keyboardist, producer and lyricist Lara Jones explore the duality of daily life – both personal and political – that’s frequently split between fighting the surface confidence of our outer selves and the nagging inner demons, injustices and chaos of the world in the 21st century.

Queer Electronic Music

I started out as a classical sax player, I quickly moved to jazz and became addicted to improvisation and experimental music. I began to explore playing saxophone with guitar pedals… long story short I discovered Ableton and never looked back. I was hooked on all the possibilities the DAW has to offer and practiced with it every day, exploring all the ways I could make the saxophone sound using the software. The obsession continued and I started to find ways I could produce music away from the saxophone, thanks to some mentoring from the one and only Anna Meredith who encouraged me to see what I could make when I wasn’t playing… until eventually I’ve become hooked on making beats and synths and glitch-ing up vocals! In 2023 I released ‘Fig’ an EP that got featured across BBC 6Music… they even playlisted the title track and was featured in Electronic Sound Magazine and DJ Mag - my 10 year old dreams of becoming a producer were very real! It’s queer, it’s bold, it’s political, it’s fun and dark!

Check it out; there’s even a song on there that uses the recording of my wife’s orgasm… that somehow made it onto BBC radio too!
